A few years ago I read a magazine article about a cycling trip in Norway. The article described a bike route linking the European countries surrounding the North Sea. I cut out the article and put it in my "save" file. Not many articles make it into this file and I have accomplished few if any of the trips/goals in those articles. So to actually be doing this and to be able to go for this length of time doesn't quite seem real yet. I think once our bikes are packed into their bags and moving down the conveyor belt and we hand Bella off to the care of Dave's parents, this might seem a bit more like it's actually happening.
This is the article that started it all: http://outside.away.com/outside/features/200504/biking-norway_1.html
Our plan is to ride from Hamburg, Germany up the coast of Denmark, take a ferry to Sweden and ride up the southern coast of Sweden and the SW coast of Norway, take a flight from Bergen to the Shetland Islands of Scotland, connect by ferry to the Orkney Island and then the Scottish mainland and ride down, ending in London. This map shows the entire North Sea Cycle Route.
